Although rum was in vogue for the roaming pirates of the seven seas, this flag was not often seen (unless the captain's name was "Rum.")
Workers in seventeenth-century sugar mills ground sugar cane and boiled the resulting juice until sugar and molasses were obtained.
Rum was then distilled from the molasses. Their is no truth that Captain Morgan discovered rum on a trip to the West Indies.
